In 1968. Supt. W. Bluford, being lead of the Lord, began a ministry in Santa Rosa, California - Powerhouse C.O.G.I.C., located at 1725 Temple Street. God added to the church and the services were great and full of life! As time went by, God continued to supply the need of the Saints, ultimately by sending in an Elect Lady, Evangelist F. M. Holloway [also affectionately and respectfully known as Mother Holloway - as she was a Mother to many]. Evangelist Holloway was appointed as Church Mother and sat over the Department of Women and during her tenure, the church realized wonderful growth.

After Supt. Bluford relinquished his duties as Pastor, Mother Holloway was strengthened by God to keep the Saints together. With the help of several ministers, the Saints stayed encouraged. They moved from Temple Street to a schoolroom and eventually, God impressed upon Mother Holloway's heart to seek a more permanent church home. One was soon found at 37 W. 7th Street in Santa Rosa.

The Saints made an offer on the property which was accepted in February 1983. After painting and fixing it up, the Saints joyfully moved into their new church. The Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Milton Mathis organized and dedicated the church appointing leadership and establishing himself as the Pastor. Some time later, Eld. James Willis was appointed pastor and served as did many other Elders who came and left.

In 1985, while in between pastors, Mother Holloway invited Eld. John Jackson of the Jerusalem Church of God In Christ in San Francisco, California, to come to Santa Rosa and run revival. Little did either of them know, but God had already chosen Eld. Jackson to be the next Pastor who would come and see the work of this ministry develop into a greater level of natural and spiritual maturity.

From the time of his installation as Pastor in 1986, Pastor John Jackson worked faithfully with Evangelist Holloway even until the Lord called her home in April of 2004. In November of 1999, the Greater Powerhouse Church Family enjoyed a three day Mortgage Burning Celebration!! To God be the glory for the things He has done! ...

Pastor John Jackson, First Lady Harriette Jackson and their young children relocated to Santa Rosa from a life of comfort in the exciting city of San Francisco. Despite owning a beautiful custom designed home in an area known as, "Little Hollywood" overlooking Candlestick Park - Pastor, being lead of the Lord, gave up that beauty to come and dwell in a simple place, all at the call of the Lord. The joy and wealth of love and giftings he and his family brought is immeasurable.

His commitment to God by faith has lead to 'setting the house in order' with an apostolic anointing from God. The Elders, Ministers, Deacons, Missionaries and Aspiring Women have all grown to new levels of understanding in God's word and grace. Under Pastor Jackson's administration, the church purchased property in a most neglected part of the city [Southwest Santa Rosa], and built a new church/ministry facility there.  Other developments of the ministry under Pastor Jackson include, but are not limited to:

  • Creation of a Missions Department operating in Sonoma County and foreign lands
  • ( Nigeria, Haiti, Mexico, Peru and Ghana - supporting a Hospital and Bible College)
  • Creation of a Food Pantry with approximately 58,000 lbs of food served in 2010
  • Selected to serve as a federally funded satellite Senior Feeding Program by Redwood Gospel Mission
  • Development of a Tutorial Program which serves our local bilingual community and the churchs' youth
  • Christmas Outreach [via Missions] providing food, clothing and toys to families of Sonoma County

In service for the California Northwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, under the leadership of Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop W. W. Hamilton, Pastor Jackson has also:

  • Served as Chairman, Superintendents Board  (2006)
  • Been appointed to the position of Executive Assistant to the Jurisdictional Prelate  (2011)
  • Been appointed as the Executive Secretary to the Jurisdiction  (2011)
  • Selected as "Pastor of the Year"  (2005 & 2011)

As God is faithful, so is our Leader, Pastor John Jackson. His life greatly illustrates the love of Christ and like the Apostle Paul, he too has often become many things to many people, that he might by any means win a soul for Christ. We, the Greater Powerhouse Church Family thank God for our Shepherd. As the Word teaches us the principle, 'like priest, like people' - we have become a people of God who love others and recognize that soul winning is our prime focus. And with lovingkindness, we welcome you to this Body of Christ.

"Come, and we will do thee good!"
